Pakistan were 24 for 2 in the final. Imran Khan and Javed Miandad batted carefully, then Inzamam-ul-Haq and Wasim Akram attacked at the end to reach 249 for 6.
England were recovering through Neil Fairbrother and Allan Lamb when Wasim came back. In the 35th over he bowled Lamb with a ball that swung in and then out, and next ball bowled Chris Lewis with one that came back sharply. England were bowled out for 227, and Imran took the final wicket.
