The story of the match
KL Rahul made 129 for India and Joe Root 180 not out for England in a closely fought first two innings. India’s second innings wobbled, and when the eighth wicket fell a draw or an England win looked most likely.
Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah then added an unbeaten 89 for the ninth wicket, after an angry exchange between Bumrah and James Anderson. India declared, set England 272, and bowled them out for 120 in the final session. Mohammed Siraj took four wickets in the innings and eight in the match.
