The story of the match
Brazil were without their star Neymar, injured in the quarter-final, and their captain Thiago Silva, who was suspended. Thomas Müller opened the scoring from a corner after 11 minutes, and then the game collapsed.
Miroslav Klose scored his 16th World Cup goal, breaking Ronaldo’s record. Toni Kroos scored twice in two minutes and Sami Khedira added a fifth. Germany were 5-0 up after 29 minutes. André Schürrle came on to score twice more, and Oscar’s late goal was the only thing Brazil had to cheer.
Key moments to watch for
- Müller scores from a corner after 11 minutes
- Klose becomes the World Cup’s all-time top scorer
- Four goals in about six minutes
- 5-0 after 29 minutes
- Schürrle’s double in the second half
Why it’s one of the greatest football matches ever
It was Brazil’s heaviest ever World Cup defeat, and in Brazil it is still called the Mineirazo. Germany went on to beat Argentina in the final. Nothing quite like it had happened at that stage of a World Cup before.
